Architect, artist, and filmmaker Zbigniew Oksiuta presents his work with
architectural forms and living organic materials. His "Spatium Gelatum"
(congealed space) projects are polymorphous habitats created from
biological polymers such as gelatine and agar. This is a liquid
architecture - spatial shapes formed from water. Examining themes of
weightlessness, dynamic systems, biology and energy, these projects are
both visions of the future and actual habitats created in collaboration
with the German Aerospace Agency. "Breeding Spaces" continues this
research, developing methods for growing and breeding three-dimensional
cell and tissue cultures. In collaboration with Max Planck Institute in Cologne and Cologne University, Germany.
This is the basis of the Transgenic Habitat, a living spatial structure created through genetic engineering.

Zbigniew Oksiuta is a an architect, artist, and researcher whose work
combines architecture, biology, physics, and genetic engineering. His
work has been shown at venues worldwide, including recent project at the
Venice Biennial, the ArchiLab, d’Orleans, France, The 57th International Astronautical
Congress, Valencia, Spain. He lives and works in Cologne, Germany.
