Sunset & St. Marks

Capla Kesting Fine Art, in association with the Standard Downtown Art Series, is pleased to announce the exhibition of their critically acclaimed group show, Sunset & St. Marks in Los Angeles. This exhibition will take place at the Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles from November 2, 2006 until November 9, 2006. An opening reception will take place at 6:00pm to 10:00pm on Thursday November 2nd.

Long regarded as rival cities, New York and Los Angeles have come to symbolize the ultimate American binary opposition: cold clouds versus warm sun, brutal honesty versus a polished veneer of insincerity, walking versus driving, East Coast versus West Coast. In spite of this false dichotomy, and perhaps because of it, Sunset & St. Marks presents an offering of the youngest and brightest talents of both scenes presented together. Artists included in this show are:

Hillary Amborn, Edwardo Benedeto, Colin Burns, Lincoln Capla, Keith Coleman, Deedee Cheriel, Bratner Deatley, Daniel Edwards, Jonny Fenix, Jason Douglas Griffin, David Hochbaum, Ara Jo, Martina Kubiyini, Travis Lindquist, Brian Leo, Shawn Bishop-Leo, Clint Peterson, Jennifer Sanchez, GoldMine ShitHouse, David Turley, Kevin Willis Chet Zar.

Also included in this exhibition is the headline-stealing piece, 'Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston' by acclaimed sculptor Daniel Edwards. The controversial sculpture depicts a life-sized Britney Spears giving birth to her first child. This sculpture grabbed headlines nationwide and now has its first west coast viewing in Sunset & St. Marks. Regarding this piece, Edwards explains that it symbolized Spears' decision to put childbirth ahead of her career. Although Britney Spears actually had a caesarean section this sculpture still continues to be the centerpiece of many conversations.
