Work is now underway on Shanghai Kaleidoscope, a dynamic new exhibition that will open in May 2008 in the dramatic new ICC gallery at the top of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, the new wing of the ROM expected to open in mid-2007. Examining Shanghai's rapid transformation into a modern, international city, the exhibition will explore the four facets that exemplify Shanghai's culture: urbanism, architecture, contemporary art and fashion. An imaginative mix of architectural drawings, models, video simulations, photographs, costumes and artwork in a variety of media will highlight Shanghai's remarkable cultural urban metamorphosis. Lectures, symposia, school tours and a cinema program will be developed by the ICC to enhance the exhibition.

Christopher Phillips, curator at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York, is the curator of Shanghai Kaleidoscope. Mr. Phillips is one of the world's leading experts on contemporary Chinese culture. Recently, he co-curated Between Past and Future: New Photography and Video from China, which was originally exhibited at the ICP and the Asia Society in New York.
