POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Department Chair

POSITION: Full time position as Chair/Professor. Salary commensurate with experience. Starting date: August 15, 2011.

QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in Studio Art or Art History and rank of senior Associate or Full Professor (or an equivalent position in an arts-related profession). The department seeks applicants possessing strong scholarly, pedagogical, and administrative records with a proven capacity to work across disciplines (while foregrounding art), inspire colleagues, and mentor students. The ideal candidate will contribute significantly to her/his field, possess a thorough knowledge of current methods and best practices in studio art and art history, and advocate vigorously for the role of arts in education and public life.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative management of department faculty and staff, budgets, and programs. Enhancement of vibrant collaborative and interdisciplinary faculty and student research while teaching two innovative courses a year. The chair will have a key role in shaping the Center for Visual Arts identity as a world-class program of art-based research, production, and exhibition through creative planning, dedicated fundraising, as well as laying the groundwork for the proposed Center for Visual Arts state-of-the-art building. The Chair will work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students as an effective advocate for the Center for Visual Arts.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Art, accredited by NASAD, with a faculty and professional staff of sixteen members, oversees an enrollment of approximately 120 art majors pursuing MFA and BFA degrees in studio art. Facilities in process of renovation and expansion offer new pedagogical and creative possibilities.

UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY: Clemson University, with an enrollment of approximately 18,000 students and 960 full time faculty, is a comprehensive research institution located mid-way between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC in the upstate foothills and lakes region of South Carolina.
