Mr. Smith's choice to work in a manner that reflects his sense of wonder in simple geometry, perspective and those elements ability to convey tangible ideas or emotions conveys a kind of visual alchemy that illuminates their simplicity with fractal awareness. His drawings are intended as a poetic response to visual culture. The work reflects an exposure to videogames, puzzles, sticker collections, hand-made Valentine's, and other bits of visual ephemera and activities from Mr. Smith's youth. The intensity of each image is heightened by the repetitious, hand-drawn hexagons that are indicators of the care, attention, and fixation common to his involvement in these youthful activities.
