Assistant Professor, Photo and Digitial Media

The School of Art at the University of Houston invites applications from artists working in the field of Photography and Digital Media to apply for a tenure-track position to begin in Fall 2010.

We seek an exceptional lens-based image maker whose art practice engages ongoing issues that surround the expansion of photographic imagery in the digital age. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of photographic history and critical/media theory, and be committed to advancing the discourse as an educator and an artist.

Requirements
MFA or terminal degree specializing in Photography or related field required. Two years college-level teaching experience beyond TA preferred. Strong record of professional activity/ demonstrated commitment to creative practice required. Interdisciplinary and cross-media interests are assets, since the School of Art is actively evolving in these directions. The ideal candidate will be able to provide intellectual leadership and vision in the development of forward-looking undergraduate and graduate programs.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: developing curriculum that complements the school’s established studio and design programs, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentoring students. Supervision of the chemical and digital facilities, in conjunction with other faculty, graduate students and staff, is a component of the position, as well as committee service to the School, College and University.
