The Rutgers MFA in Design nurtures research-driven studio work at the nexus of communication, interaction and exhibition design. Students are based in an intimate community of artists and critical thinkers, while also engaging with the vast resources and opportunities for research and collaboration offered by a top-tier public research university located an hour away from New York City and Philadelphia.
The curriculum is structured to stimulate innovative and speculative creative work that responds to historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts. This two-year program empowers designers to identify, question, and synthesize theoretical, critical, quantitative, and qualitative ideas and material. Design becomes a tool for inquiry and investigation alongside communication and expression.
