Bennington College seeks a Technical Instructor for a full time, year-round, position to provide support for the visual arts program. Primary responsibilities include: managing the visual arts computer lab (including hiring, oversight and training of student workers and working closely with IT to supervise hardware and software updates and installations); providing help and guidance to visual art students with digital workflows (Adobe Suite, etc.); maintaining and operating a large format printer; managing pricing and scheduling for student and faculty print requests; maintaining and operating a Risograph printer; ensuring safe and responsible use of all equipment; supporting Usdan Gallery (by regularly updating the gallery website and providing design and production assistance with gallery signage, labels and publications).


 


In addition, the Technical Instructor teaches two 2-credit courses each year, typically in Adobe Creative Suite or similar industry-standard software.


 


This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a Bachelor's degree in digital arts, design, or a related field, interest and aptitude to work across disciplines with a diverse body of students and faculty, and a high level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, web design, laser cutting and Riso printing. A graduate degree, teaching experience, and a working knowledge of digital design and physical computing are desirable, but not required. A portfolio demonstrating the use of digital workflows and creative sensitivity is expected. A high regard for personal and shop safety and excellent organizational skills are required, as is an interest in contemporary art and design practices.
