Framing the Machine is an exhibition of A.I. generated art works curated by artist-researcher Mitch Goodwin that critically examines the language, labour and aesthetics of generative AI systems.

The exhibition marks the launch of Goodwin’s collaborative art intervention, Slow Down Time. An online archive of thirty-three conceptual interactions between Goodwin and an international network of prompt authors using the A.I. text-to-image service, Midjourney.

Framing the Machine features internationally recognised media theorist Lev Manovich and critical Internet studies expert Geert Lovink, alongside Australian artists Sean Lowry, Ron McBurnie and Sarah-Mace Dennis. Local researchers include Sean Redmond (Deakin), James Carey (RMIT), Tyne Daile Sumner and Wendy Haslem (Melbourne) and Birpai journalist and author Jack Latimore (The Age).

The opening event will feature site specific prints and experimental video works that won't be on display during the regular exhibition season (Aug 30 - Sep 20).
