Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Arts and Humanities and the Art + Architecture Department Chair, the Manager of Visual Arts Technology will: research, maintain, and support (I) classroom technology in facilities that serve the Department of Art + Architecture, (II) curricular technology for five academic programs: Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, Art History, and Museum Studies, (III) technology and software purchases for department faculty and staff. Recruit and supervise student staff. Manage calendars, coordinate maintenance, and administer access for computer labs.

Job Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, maintain, and support (I) approx. 90 macOS devices, and (II) approx. 25 Windows devices.
• Administer two macOS servers with the following services:
• SMB, SSH + SFTP, Apache web server, pf firewall, SSHGuard
• license servers for network-licensed software
• (in macOS or Windows virtual machine)
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise approx. 10 student employees.
• Maintain a list of students, faculty, and staff eligible for additional lab services and programmatically grant or revoke access as needed.
• Administer approx. 5 black and white laser printers and approx. 7 wide-format, color inkjet printers, including maintaining adequate supply of consumables. 6 flatbed scanners, 8 classroom projection systems. 30 cameras, camcorders, audio recorders, and other loaner digital media devices, including (I) coordinating with externally managed equipment desk to loan devices to students and faculty, (II) loaning specialty equipment directly to faculty and staff, and (III) performing periodic inventories.
• Configure approx. 15 university-owned devices, e.g. computers and tablets, to display digital work in department exhibits both on and off-campus.
• Create, maintain, and disseminate to faculty, staff, and students: (I) documentation of curricular and classroom technology, and (II) informational website for department computer labs and technical resources.
• Develop and deliver lab training to new faculty slated to teach computer lab-based courses and Develop / deliver in-class tutorials on lab technology and resources on faculty request.
• Manage or contribute to internal technology projects as required or requested by department faculty and staff.
• Act as department liaison to university-level Information Technology Services (ITS) department for network and classroom technology matters. Keep abreast of ITS software, security, and configuration standards. Request exceptions and manage implementations as needed.
• Manage three hybrid computer lab / classrooms:
• Maintain and publish calendars, replenish supplies, coordinate with university offices for swipe card access, alarm codes, facility matters, and custodial services.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required.
• Three to five years experience managing and maintaining computer labs or other spaces equipped with shared, multi-user macOS and Windows devices.
• Expert knowledge of Apple computers and macOS.
• Intermediate to expert knowledge of “PCs” and the Windows operating system. Experience with running a Windows virtual machine in macOS is a plus.
• Understanding of and/or familiarity with administering SMB, SSH, SFTP, Apache, pf firewall, and SSHGuard services on a server.
• Understanding of Active Directory. Experience with manual and automated binding (in macOS and Windows) and managing AD group membership is a plus.
• Understanding of Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and other computer networking fundamentals, including firewalls and authentication layers.
• Comfortable using the command line and experience writing scripts to automate both end-user and administrative tasks in macOS and Windows.
• Experience with MDM tools and/or other system imaging solutions for macOS and Windows. Jamf Pro experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of projection systems, digital camcorders, cameras, inkjet printers, laser printers, flatbed scanners, pen tablets, and other common peripherals, including the multitude of connectors, cables, and adapters required to connect these peripherals to all sorts of devices, including tablets, smartphones, and computers.
• Experience with or practice in a visual or applied arts discipline a plus.
• Familiarity with deploying, licensing, configuring, and administering industry-standard design and architecture software in macOS and Windows, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, et al.), AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp Pro, Enscape, et al.. End-user experience a plus.
• Service-oriented, reliable, friendly, and collaborative in a technical support capacity.
• Ability to adapt fluidly to changes in curriculum and an always-changing client base of students and full-time / part-time faculty.
• Physically able to work with computers and lift 60 lbs.
• Experience collaborating across departments/programs.
• Experience in an educational, multicultural setting is preferred.
