January 2005

I am excited to present to you The Washroom Projects (TWP), a unique cross-arts performance project that brings dance, music, live art, fine arts, spoken word and physical theatre to the most unusual yet most familiar of locations: the public toilet.

The aim of TWP is to develop creative space outside accepted arts venues - galleries, museums, theatres and so on - by converting toilets into performance and exhibition areas. The artworks and performances created in TWP can be touched, smelt and felt by anyone and are artistically accessible to the public. The Washroom Projects reflect the bohemian lifestyle of the true artist - the perfect marriage of art and life.

The first in what I hope to become a series of events will take place on Saturday 29th January in Filthy McNasty’s pub in London EC1. Over thirty artists - from dancers and photographers to poets and musicians -will be performing on the night in the already-converted pub toilets.

Feel free to email me on [email protected] or to call me on 0207 2544 032 or 07837 844 897. Further information, including a list of performers, can be found on TWP website (see below).

I look forward very much to hearing from you soon.

With best wishes,

Jay Rechsteiner
The Washroom Projects Chief Artist
