German Herrera: Solo Exhibition @ Fusion Artspace, San Francisco

GERMAN HERRERA AT FUSION ARTSPACE - San Francisco
Exhibition Preview: http://www.fusionartspace.com

Influenced by Jungian psychology and a rich imagination, artist German Herrera creates calmly surreal images by digitally combining various photographic elements into subtle shades of black and white. Luminous and evocative, the images, while not entirely abstract, remain illusory, grounded in the subconscious and world of dreams. The artworks - combining ghost like figures, natural elements, sampled pages from historic books - ultimately are self portraits. Herrera writes that he has discovered in his work “a self-portrait, a document and a map; myself understood as part of a whole.” Deeply imaginative, poetic and playful, the images invite us into an inner world.

In 1998 and 2004 Herrera received two Marin Arts Council Photographic grants; he has been twice nominated for the Eureka Awards, Fleishhacker Foundation. His work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego, CA; the Bolinas Museum, CA and the Centro Cultural Santo Domingo, Mexico City. Herrera is originally from Mexico City, and attended the California College of Arts and Crafts. This is his first solo exhibition in San Francisco.
