Dr Paula Dawson's exhibition at Boutwell Draper Gallery in May 2004 unveiled the prototype for a new life-long, worldwide project to make for individuals caryatid bronze mirrors, which have holographic reflections. The new bronze mirror works combine processes from bronze casting, 3D laser scanning, 3D computer graphics, electroplating and embossing to achieve a holographic image in a 6" polished bronze disc supported by a 6" miniature figure of the subject for personal reflection. The hologram in the bronze mirror is designed to be seen in the available lighting of the domestic setting in which it will be viewed. Other works in the exhibition explore the relationship of portraiture and reflection through miniature sequin portrait painting, aluminum foil mosaic drawing, mosaic, gold leaf holograms, optically formed fringe digital hologram and laser transmission holograms.
