Spinning in a dark room, only its motor whirring; when shined upon it glistens. It stoically rejects the light or rather repurposes it - casting it outwards, drawing the space around it. Ever-warping parallelograms grip the walls, taking their measure, occasionally interrupted by the shifting surface of a dancer.

Fox Hysen (San Rafael, California) Lives and works in Forest Knolls, California. She received her BFA from New York University in 2006 and her MFA in painting from Yale in 2015 and is the recent recipient of the Tournesol Award at the Headlands Center for Arts.

Robin McDonnell was born in New York City and lives and works in the San Francisco Bay area. She has a BA in Television from San Francisco State, a BA in Painting from CCA and an MFA from U.C. Berkeley. She has held teaching/lecturing positions at Mills College, Stanford University and UC Berkeley. She has had solo shows at Brian Gross Fine Art Gallery and has shown in San Francisco, Sacramento, New York and Los Angeles. Her work has been reviewed in the San Francisco Chronicle and other publications.

Anne McGuire’s paintings are inspired by the unique video editing algorithm/system she invented in the early 1990s in which she reedited The Andromeda Strain (1971) in such a way that it starts with the end, and ends with the beginning. The paintings, called “square spirals,” come from a state of mind not unlike watching one of her reedited films, but seen all at once. In addition to painting, McGuire makes videos, writes and performs on stage as a Singer. Her videos are distributed by Video Databank in Chicago, and LUX Distribution in London. She lives in San Francisco.
