Position Description
UNIT: NYU Tisch School of the Arts Photography and Imaging
POSITION: Digital Coordinator (Full-time)
GRADE: 100/ Grade 13
TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Technical Director

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

1.Oversee all operations of digital facilities, which include but are not limited to: macintosh computers, various scanners, inkjet printers, DV decks, media converters, and multimedia projectors, plus Adobe CS, Quark, Final Cut, web design and sound editing software. Maintain general and advanced digital lab and mobile classroom stations (approximately 30). Troubleshoot network errors and issues. Set policies, rules and regulations with regard to use of digital labs and equipment by students and faculty. Assess ongoing needs of digital labs. Keep current with technical developments in the field of digital imaging. Conduct ongoing assessment of digital labs and make recommendations to Chair and Technical Director with regard to equipment purchases (both hardware and software). Make recommendations to Technical Director with regard to large equipment purchases for digital labs.
2.With Technical Director, and under Technical Director's supervision, coordinate interface between digital and wet labs. This includes but is not limited to coordination of lab hours, use of shared equipment by classes that access both labs, coordination of casual employees in support of both wet and digital labs. Coordination of policies that apply to both.
3.Supervise Lab Technician as well as casual employees in the daily maintenance of digital lab equipment including computers, digital video equipment, projectors, scanners and printers. Oversee scheduling of digital labs including class and student use.
4.Instruct students and faculty in use of both general and advanced digital labs. Conduct periodic training sessions on specific equipment. Assist faculty and staff with software problems. Oversee eligibility for access to advanced lab. Insure proper training of faculty and students in use of advanced lab.
5.Ensure security of facilities, equipment, and quality and safety standards.
6.Maintain inventory and order supplies and small equipment.
7.Respond to inquiries regarding digital facility use.
8.Work with Chair to secure possible equipment donations.
9.Maintain faculty and staff computers (approximately 15)
10.Develop relationships with vendors and manufacturers to facilitate service.
11.Field requests from faculty for new or different software.
12.Must possess and maintain knowledge of current photographic processes

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years' relevant experience or equivalent combination. Experience must include operation and maintenance of digital and multimedia production facilities, equipment, and web development. Knowledge of digital photography and computer graphics, ability to provide technical training and advisement. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of a variety of current and emerging digital media technologies. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Experience working in an artistic environment preferred.
