The great diversity and tremendous current relevance of this branch of artistic production call for theoretical and scholarly reflection on the historical
significance of such artworks, on how to mediate audiences' encounters with them and on their conservation. The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute Media.Art.Research has been pursuing precisely these tasks since its founding in Linz in 2005. The theory prize competition is meant to promote an international discourse centering on the theories, methodologies and standards of media art. Essential to this agenda is the necessity of
defining terms and developing a theoretical framework in a way that affirms pluralism and emphatically rejects any sort of final categorization of such artforms.
What can you submit?
Theoretical works dealing with some aspect of <interactive artforms> can be entered this year-for example,

* a university thesis/dissertation,
* a scholarly article,
* an essay,
* a book or
* an online publication.

The work must either be in the form of a completed manuscript or have already been published. Individuals or groups of people of any nationality are eligible to enter.

The Prix Ars Electronica Media.Art.Research Award is meant to recognize basic scholarly research and contemporary theory construction that addresses current scientific, social and artistic issues. In the judging, decisive emphasis will be placed on the submission's contribution to the latest research and not on the historical merits of the author. Consideration will also be given to the Ludwig Boltzmann Society's overriding objective of fostering the careers of promising academicians. The jury will pay particular attention to the quality of the work's content and its scholarly relevance. Contemporary methodological approaches expressed in a clear, understandable way are especially welcome, as are innovative publication formats (e.g. online publishing).

Deadline for submission: March 7, 2008
(but if you submit as early as possible, you give us more time to read your
contributions ;-)

More informations about the Prix and the online registration:
<http://www.aec.at/en/prix/index.asp 2> http://www.aec.at/en/prix/index.asp 2
<http://www.aec.at/en/prix/cat_media_art_research.asp>
http://www.aec.at/en/prix/cat_media_art_research.asp

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
Rhizome Needs You!

Rhizome is currently in the midst of our annual Community Campaign. As of 2007, estimates range from 77,000 to over 655,000 deaths in Iraq of non-combatants as a consequence of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”.

Jury
A diverse group of internationally based curators and scholars have been invited to serve as jurors for the project - they will each develop an updatable list of up to ten favorite entries (there will be no "winner" of this call for proposals). There is no final deadline for this project, March 19, 2008, the fifth anniversary of the start of the Operation Iraqi Freedom, will serve as an initial first deadline for the jurors review of proposals. Works will also be freely rated by the viewing public on each individual artist's page.

Jurors include:
-Dr. Nadje Al-Ali, Centre for Gender Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK
-Yaelle Amir, Independent Curator and Writer, New York City, USA
-Dr Bernadette Buckley, Lecturer in International Politics, Goldsmiths University of London, UK
-Monica Narula & Shuddhabrata Sengupta, The Raqs Media Collective, Delhi, India
-Dr. David Simpson, Professor of English, University of California Davis, USA
-John David Spiak, Curator, Arizona State University Art Museum, Tempe, USA
-Dr. Marjorie Vecchio, Director/Curator, Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery, University of Nevada, Reno, USA

Guidelines for Entrieshttp://www.iraqimemorial.org/proposals.html
This project seeks to highlight conceptions of memorials in the broadest context possible. From individual gestures of personal remembrance to monumental concepts functioning on a global scale - all ideations of memory that address the issue of Iraqi civilian deaths are welcome. From sketches on napkins to fully detailed digitally animated walkthroughs - the diversity of approaches to expressing your ideas will help to create an engaging and thought provoking repository of memorial concepts.

Who May Submit Proposals?
All artists, designers, individuals or collaborations are welcome and invited to submit proposals. You must be at minimum 18 years old to participate in this project.

Materials/Media/Processes
There are no restrictions in regard to materials, media or processes - this project seeks to encourage proposals from across the diverse spectrum of disciplinary and cross-disciplinary artistic practice. This open call for proposals is open to all creative practice, including but not limited to: visual artists, performing artists, designers, architects, audio artists. Artists and designers should think as broadly a possible in considering the proposed use of materials, media and processes. All artistic processes will be considered in this context (permanent/temporary, physical/ethereal, object/performative, formal/interactive, traditional/relational, analog/digital).

Site
It is up to each artist to define the context(s) as to where the proposed memorials would ideally be realized. There are no geographical, architectural, dimensional or spatial restrictions of any kind - as there is no defined location this is completely open to individual interpretation and imagination (physical/virtual, local/global, permanent/temporary). Artists are encouraged to consider the identification of site(s) as fluid yet critical to the proposal process.

What to Submit?
Artists are invited to use the format best suited to represent their individual memorial concepts. This can include, but is not limited to: drawings, diagrams, architectural renderings, scale models, photographs, descriptive texts, audio files, video or animated walk-through - whatever format most creatively represents the memorial concept.

How to Submit
Entries are accepted via this website. Societe Realiste is an artistic cooperative, created by Ferenc Grof and Jean-Baptiste Naudy in 2004. Their activity consists in developing various research enterprises, successively dealing with territorial ergonomy, experimental economy, counter-strategy, or political design, as is the case of the project Transitioners, initiated in 2006, and for which they have been invited to Delme.

Transitioners is a trend design agency, specialized in political transitions. Transposing the principles of prospective design, generally used by professionals in the field of fashion, to the field of politics, Societe Realiste questions the revolution (transition?) as a central category for contemporary Western society. How can a "democratic transition"
be produced? What is the role of design in the permanent conversion of political flux into mythology? How can the effect of an event on citizens be transformed into a controlled affect? Depending on present atmosphere, Transitioners defines the general climate,
in which future social transformation movements will take place, in order to maximize their efficiency. By examining the evolution of revolution as a form, the project offers visual and semantic tools ready to be used by whoever wishes to: logotypes, color charts, lexical fields, etc.

For each new step in the project, Societe Realiste conceives a new trend
collection, originated by a precise historical event. In 2007, the inspiration for Bastille Days was the French Revolution. The 2008 collection, entitled Le Producteur and inaugurated at la Synagogue de Delme is based on the utopias developed during the first three decades of the 19th century, by thinkers such as Fourier, Enfantin, Rodrigues, Cabet, Owen, or Saint-Simon. A wide panorama (pictorial and theatrical device inherited from that time) will be inscribed in the architecture of the art center, allowing the visitors to discover the latest research of Transitioners.

The central question of the 2008 collection is related to the progressive separation of liberalism and socialism. While they have a common origin and were not differentiated by major utopist thinkers, the events of 1830 and 1848 progressively opposed them. This binary confrontation between liberalism and socialism still constitutes the basis of our common representations. For Transitioners, the interrogation of this ideological
chasm, of its accuracy and its contradictions, is central. The stake of the collection Le Producteur consists in knowing how these movements share a common ideological base, and how the later can nourish the design of future transitions.

In 2006-07, the Bastille Days collection was presented at Trafo Galeria
(Budapest), at the Kunstpavillon (Innsbruck), on the occasion of the 2nd
Biennale of Moscow, at Mains d'Oeuvres (Saint-Ouen), at Ze dos Bois (Lisbon)
and at the Martine Aboucaya gallery (Paris). Societe Realiste will also present Transitioners: Le Producteur from January 29 to February 24, 2008 in the context of Transmediale 08: Conspire, at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt of Berlin (www.transmediale.de).

For further information about projects by the Societe Realiste cooperative:
www.societerealiste.net ; www.cac-synagoguedelme.org

INFORMATIONS:

Opening hours:
Wednesday to Saturday from 2 to 6 pm,
Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm
Admission free
Closed from December 22, 2007 to January 1st, 2008

————————————————–

Centre d'art contemporain la Synagogue de Delme
33 rue Poincar=E9 - 57590 Delme FRANCE
+33 (0)3 87 01 43 42
www.cac-synagoguedelme.org

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

7.

From: Zach Layton
Date: December 8, 2007
Subject: la superette this weekend
Hello,

this is the second shopping weekend of La Superette, curated by Tali
Hinkis and Kyle Lapidus, who have invited me to be an iPod DJ along with Bethany Ryker of wfmu's stochastic hit parade and Daniel Perlin tomorrow from 12 - 7pm.

La Superette is a fantastic event and a great opportunity to pick up some affordable art work by wonderful artists…come on down.

(see lasuperette.org for full information):

Saturday December 8 and Sunday December 9 from 12 NOON until 7pm each day.
this year all La Superette events are being held at 112 W. 44th St. a block from Times Square in Manhattan.

though a few things sold out, many great items are still available so come
shop for things you and your loved ones will adore!

also a few sets of Viewmaster glasses for the Dec. 13-16 performance
series featuring Loud Objects, Benton Bainbridge/Matty Ostrowski, MV Carbon/Tony Conrad, Nautical Almanac, The And Group, Luke Dubois, James Rouvelle/John
Roach, Dan Iglesia, and Gerald Marks (details at: http://lasuperette.org/schedule.php ) are still available, and may be the only way to get into the shows on those nights depending on space constraints, so if you're interested, you should come pick some up this weekend.

What is La Superette?

La Superette is an annual event, an art sale held around the holiday season in December. The performance series grows from Artists Spaces commitment to experimentation across all art forms and recent efforts to return performance art to its central position within the gallery's activities and exhibitions. Their works present diametrically opposed concepts; beauty and grace are juxtaposed and diminished through brute action and athleticism, tacitly disrupting and challenging gender-based categorizations.

The three pieces to be included, Big Dip, Ascendant Landing, and Potential Fertility Rite, are distinct yet share the recurrent core elements of sound, rhythm, and form embodied through purposeful movement. The symbols of the Celtic knot, the line, and the Lemniscate (eternity sign) provide the foundation for each of their performances,
allowing for a poetic exploration of female tropes through notions of timelessness and the everyday.

*PLEASE NOTE: special gallery hours
Tuesday-Friday 5pm-10pm
Saturday 12pm-5pm

Additional support for TallBlondLadies: Solidly Grounded has been provided by Ledragomma (www.ledragomma.com)

Artists Space
38 Greene St. 3rd Fl, NY NY 10013

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Rhizome.org is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization and an affiliate of the New Museum of Contemporary Art.

Rhizome Digest is supported by grants from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Rhizome Digest is filtered by Marisa Olson ([email protected]).
