SHARE PRIZE 2008
Saturday 10 November 2007
Circolo dei Lettori - Palazzo Graneri della Rocca
via Bogino 9, Torino
7.30 p.m.

On Saturday 10 November 2007 the six finalists shortlisted for the Share Prize will be made public at “Il Circolo dei Lettori” in Torino in conjunction with Artissima’s “Saturday Night Art Fever”. This year will be the second edition of the international competition of digital artworks, and the panel of judges will be presided over by Bruce Sterling (guru of new technologies, science fiction writer and design journalist), who is in Torino to collaborate with the Piemonte Share Festival and serve the city by providing his own special brand of visions.

Open to all Italian and foreign artists, the aim of the Share Prize competition is to discover, promote and support digital arts. Competitors for the prize are required to create an artwork that employs digital technology as a language of creative expression.

The artists and work selected by the panel of judges will take part in the 4th edition of the Piemonte Share Festival. To coincide with the broad spectrum of events within the Torino World design Capital calendar, this year’s festival “Manufacturing” from 11 - 16 March 2008 will explore the relationship between digital art and design.

The Piemonte Share Festival is an event dedicated to the promotion of digital art and culture, and provides a platform to discuss the continual changes taking place during the digital epoch in which we live. These changes will be investigated from different standpoints in a variety of settings.
The core events of this edition will be the “Manufacturing” exhibition, curated by Sterling, together with performances and shows of work by selected artists and the winner of the Share Prize. A number of conferences and workshops are also planned to probe issues of concern.
The Share Prize panel of judges, made up of key figures from the world of digital art, will hand over “The Globe” award and a prize of €2,500 to the piece that in their opinion best represents experimentation between art and new technologies. The panel is composed of:

Bruce Sterling (writer and journalist, Austin) - chairman, Piero Gilardi (artist, Torino), Anne Nigten (managing director of v2 and DEAF, Rotterdam), Oscar Abril Ascaso (curator of Sonar, Barcelona), Stefano Mirti (architect, Interaction design Lab, Milano)

The winner will be announced during the award ceremony of the Piemonte Share Festival, and made public on the Festival website (www.toshare.it).

The event is part of “CONTEMPORARY arts Torino Piemonte”.
