D.T.D. is an on-line DataBase/Archive/Blog of images taken over a three year
period in Euskadi/Basque Country in the north of Spain and South France.
These photos are structured in the form of a journey through the Basque
Country, starting in Bayonne and finishing in Araba.

*Background.*

Disputed Territories DataBase grows out of a previous piece I made about
Bilbao (see <http://www.johnmurphy.info/2005/05-bilbo.htm>). Untitled.
(Bilbo) 2005 focused more on the surfaces of the city (Bilbao) whereas
D.T.Dis a snapshot of the region.

After moving to Madrid in 2003 from Bilbao I quickly came to realize the
politicaly charged representation of the Basque Country in the Spanish and
to a lesser extent the international media did not correspond to the place I
had come to know over the three and a half years I lived there.

Piece.

Over three years (2003-2006) I travelled through the Basque Country with
various digital cameras building an archive of approx 1,000 images from
which Disputed Territories DataBase comes from.

*Disputed Territories DataBase. **The Unofficial Cathedral of Mejorada del
Campo** *is an on-line Blog/Archive/DataBase of images taken in and around
Justo Gallego Martinez's Cathedral in Mejorada del Campo, approx 20 km fr=
om
Madrid, Spain.

*Background:**
*

Just outside Madrid, Spain in the town of Mejorada del Campo an ex-friar,
Justo Gallego, has been building a cathedral virtually single-handed mostly
from recycled materials since the 1960's.

Justo Gallego gradually became quite a celebrity in Spain and abroad as the
dimensions of his cathedral project became clear in the eighties and
nineties. However given the sheer size of the project, and the fact that he
had to build it largely alone because he lacked funds to hire helpers, in
recent years it became doubtful whether or not he would actually live to see
his cathedral complete. And even if he did, Justo was aware that authorities
may demolish it as soon as he died because of the lack of formal planning
permission or official support from the town authorities.

The cathedral, which draws thousands of visitors to the town, is barely
mentioned in the official website of Mejorada del Campo.
