CFP: 23rd International Conference on the Beginning Design Student

The 23rd International Conference on the Beginning Design Student will be held at SCAD March 1-4, 2007. This independent conference promotes interaction of faculty teaching beginning design across many disciplines. The theme for the 2007 conference is "Translation." Abstracts may be submitted for consideration to Conrad Marcus Rathmann by e-mail at [email protected]. For more information, visit http://employeepages.scad.edu/~crathman .

Here is a brief description of the theme "Translation": Teaching requires one to translate one's experiences into models and lessons for one's students. This is particularly true for beginning design students, for whom broad concepts and complex methods must be translated into more simple terms to ease understanding and acquisition. In this time of increased globalization and specialization, the ideas of shifting, motion and uprootedness raised by translation as a working method are important current themes for design.
