Call for SHORT FILM & VIDEO:

SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Collective) is looking for contemporary, independent and innovative short films and videos by artists of South Asian origin from around the world. From subtle abstractions, documentaries to figurative works, the program will reflect the range of current activity and talent by South Asian artists.


Selected works will be screened at the third annual program of international short film & video, titled MONITOR 3 in Toronto, Canada in April 2007. The 70 minute program is curated by Claire Eckert (programmer for Pleasure Dome, and past Film and Video Outreach Coordinator for the Blackwood Gallery, UTM).


Works must be under 50 minutes, not produced before 2004, and have a South Asian artist in a key creative role. Submissions from emerging directors and students are welcome. Artists Fees will be paid.

- Submissions should be sent on VHS/DVD enclosed with the following:

- Artist or Director Name

- Full contact information (address, phone, fax, email)

- Title of work

- Date of Production

- Brief synopsis of the work

- Brief biography of the artist

- Production stills - if available

- Publicity kit - if available

- Self Address Stamped Envelope

All deliveries from international participants must be marked:

"NO COMMERCIAL VALUE - FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY" Please do not claim any monetary value over $50 on your package for insurance or otherwise or you will be charged customs, duties and taxes.

All submissions must be sent prepaid. SAVAC will not accept collect or C.O.D. shipments and will not accept shipments incurring expenses for duties, taxes or customs brokerage. Submissions will only be returned with a self addressed stamped envelope (in Canadian postage) or send a cheque payable to SAVAC for the return postage amount.

SAVAC is a Toronto-based, artist-run, nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and presentation of contemporary visual art by artists of South Asian* origin, within Canada and internationally. South Asians are people who can trace their ancestry to countries of the Indian subcontinent: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
