streaming audio question

I note that when you play
http://scfire-chi0l-2.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1018 (soma.fm groove salad)
in Winamp, it immediately displays the artist name and the track name.
However, if you click the above URL and let it stream into your browser for
a couple of seconds, click the browser's 'stop' button, and then search the
text for the artist name or track name, it isn't in the file (or is
encrypted). Any idea on how to get a handle on the artist name and track
name?

Sorry, got the answer at
http://www.smackfu.com/stuff/programming/shoutcast.html

The info is actually in the streaming file unencrypted, but the binary data
that precedes it confuses the browser, so it isn't displayed properly.

Have not run across any Flash or Shockwave pieces for the Web that
successfully get and utilize this data (and also if gettable the mp3 ID 3
info). They don't have access to the data at this granularity (apparently
can't seek through the data stream). Also there seem to be IE issues in
using Flash and Shockwave to play Shoutcast streams. Concerning proxies or
something.

So it looks like interesting apps involving internet radio, at this point in
time, pretty much have to be of the desktop variety. Net-oriented but
running off the desktop, not directly through the browser.

Anyone know of any net art pieces that use internet radio as material? The
'Internet radio dial' seems to be much more interesting than the 'radio
dial' in any given place.
