100% fixed-term post for 6 years as professor of visual arts with special responsibility for sound art DH installation/digital art.


The Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) is responsible for training, research, and professional artistic and design development work, as well as presentation within the main fields of visual arts, performing arts, and design.

Faculty of Visual Arts

The faculty consists of the former the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Art (SKA) and the Norwegian College of Art and Crafts (SHKS). Courses in the Visual Arts DHDepartment of Fine Art at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts DH are professional courses for the training of artists. They consist of two separate study programmes: a three-year introductory bachelorOs programme and a two-year masterOs programme. The study programmes have 105 students and around 15 staff members. Guest teachers and lecturers are also engaged.

The study programmes in Visual Arts DH Department of Fine Art cover the depth area fields of art theory, painting, photography/video/film, sculpture DH installation DH performance and digital art. Within the framework of these depth area fields the programmes provide an introduction into art related theoretical subjects, professional specialisation through professional oriented courses, and seminars that provide an introduction into artistic tools and methods, as well as artistic practice that cover the studentsO own studio work.

Areas of responsibility

The professor will bear primary artistic and pedagogic responsibility for development within his or her field and for the facultyOs resources within digital art. Duties include teaching and facilitating teaching, student guidance, and artistic development work DH in accordance with the guidelines regarding work plans for academic personnel.

The professor with special responsibility for sound art DH installation/digital art shall head the development of this field in the study programmes in Visual Arts DH Department of Fine Art. It is expected that the teaching will be closely tied to his or her own artistic development work.

The professorship in visual arts with special responsibility for sound art DH installation/digital is a fixed-term contract post for 6 years with the possibility of renewal for one period after being publicly advertised.

Requirements for applicants:

Documented, extensive artistic activity (incl. international exhibitions) at the highest level according to international standards, and relevant breadth and depth in the field of audio art DH installation/digital at the highest level.


Documented relevant practical-pedagogic competence based on education or teaching and guidance. Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate their pedagogic ability in a test lecture.


There are strict requirements concerning the ability to work in a team, independence and reliability, and the ability to communicate well both orally and in writing is also required.


National and international professional network and ability to maintain and develop this.


Applicants shall provide an account of their administrative experience and any public posts held.


Applicants must normally master at least one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Danish, Swedish). Weight will be given to knowledge and experience of project work.
The application shall contain the necessary biographical information and a brief account of the applicantOs teaching intentions and goals. A comprehensive overview of all artistic activities and other activities of significance vis-?-vis the post shall be enclosed with the application.

A CV, certificates and diplomas, confirmations, etc, shall be enclosed with the application. A list of the enclosed documents shall also be enclosed. The documentation can consist of photos/slides of oneOs own works/projects, videos, articles and other published materials, reviews, etc. The applicantOs competence will be assessed by an expert committee. Please note that the expert committee that will assess applicants will exclusively consider applications and their accompanying documentation. Five copies of the application, CV and list of enclosures shall be submitted together with one copy of the photographic materials and other documentation. Works cannot be submitted after the application deadline.

The academyOs governing board is the appointing authority.

The professor of visual arts undertakes to participate in teaching, artistic development work and administration, and to fulfil the requirements concerning work plans and reporting. The person appointed must comply with the law and regulations that apply to state bodies in general, and universities and university colleges in particular, at any given time, and must be prepared to accept organisational and work related changes.

The professorship shall be remunerated according to pay levels 63 DH 66 of the public pay scale (NOK 459,300 DH NOK 485,300 per annum). A higher level of remuneration may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. A 2% deduction is made from the remuneration as a statutory contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
