art of light: call for entries

Call for entries: Rays of Light will be a November 2002 group exhibition in Chicago, USA of artwork using the medium of light in challenging, innovative ways. This show is expected to represent diverse approaches to light applications. Perhaps one of the oldest and broadest signifiers, light carries meanings ranging from Platonic theories to the Enlightenment and beyond. It also sits at the meeting place of countless contemporary developments: fiber optics, advances in LED technology, optical storage media and deep space exploration, to name just a few. Works provocatively and/or critically engaging new media are therefore especially welcome. The exhibition will be held in a 2000 sq. ft. dedicated space in the heart of Chicago’s gallery district. In order to encourage international participation, the space interior will be custom built to accommodate specific projects, and shipping will be provided. The show is organized and sponsored by Chicago lighting company Lightology, and will be widely promoted in the general and art press. There are 3 co-curators: Lightology art director Kasia Kay; San Francisco-based new media writer Louis Brill; and Chicago artist David Parker.
