Today the "Museum of the Essential and Beyond That" is launching the
project: Saturday Flashes
Every Saturday we will be featuring one of the artists of the museum. The
first one choosen is Josely Carvalho (Brazil)
Pay attention on her very nice designed and programmed work: BOOK OF ROOFS
BOOK OF ROOFS is a media/installation project that includes an interactive
website and print/video/sound installations. The project's foundation is
built on the traditional colonial-style clay roof tile, basic in the
construction of Brazilian dwellings. With no true beginning or ending, the
website architecture of BOOK OF ROOFS simulates the continuous backbreaking
labor of tile workers. The turtle, as an interface, guides the user in the
construction of a a new tile for this cybernetic roof.

Josely Carvalho incorporates in her work, painting, sculpture, printmaking,
video, sound, poetry, photography and net-based projects in her virtual and
real-time installations to explore hybrid cultural and social issues.
Resides in New York and Rio de Janeiro. Book of Roofs is sponsored by new
york Foundation ofr the Arts and it has received funding from Creative
Capital Foundation and New York State Council for the Arts.
