hola!

at the url: http://people.na.infn.it/~rcoen/aria/aria.html
you can find photos, video and tech info about my recent installation 'machineARIA'

machineARIA was exhibited for the first time on 2005.11.12 in the collective exhibition 'Aria, una boccata d'arte', in Napoli.
It is temporary housed in a private collection in Napoli.

Air, ethereal, can move matter.
Air, which appears most inconsistent and immaterial, moves matter, moves leaves, moves flowers.

machineARIA invites the viewer to contemplate a hybrid ecosystem - natural and artificial - of electromechanically modified plants. These augmented plants contain the source of the wind that sways and caresses them.

A custom circuit with a PIC microcontroller is connected to five motors with their propellers and LEDs, each one grafted to the trunk of a bamboo plant. The motors and LEDs are being turned on and off sequentially: the resulting motion simulates a delicate wind blow.
