MRI Brain Scan Movie

As an artist, I have been interested in the aesthetic design of the brain as a subject, and have woven the design of brain sections. More recently, I underwent three sets of fMRI brain scans at the University of Wisconsin, and obtained approximately 120 of the scans in the form of a movie. I set the scans to music, and converted to QuickTime. You can read the background for the project at:

http://www.dmoma.org/lobby/movies/brain_scan/brain_scan_about.html

The movie itself is at:

Not on topic, but let me throw one more at you before my rhizome membership temporarily lapses. On your cellphone, go to:

http://www.dmoma.org/dex.html

Check out the poetry of Steven Smith. below that, "Cronies, Nannies, etc." is still topical, too.

Cheers,

Logan

I just enter http://www.dmoma.org/dex.html into "Favorites." It's still slow, and I need to go through a couple cellphone menus, but I don't have to enter the URL on the numeric keypad each time. If it still doesn't work, look at it on a laptop or PC.

How does nznl work? And "a drawing a day"?

Does look really cute on a cellphone. Thanks. Got a server time-out
though. I'll try again later…

How does nznl.com work? Well, nznl.com is actually a blog, the twist
– if a twist it may be called – being that the site is written to
expect a new drawing at exactly 00:00 CET each and every day.
Punishment for not adhering to the expectation is mild, though. The
worst that could happen is a user encountering a broken image icon.

I can upload in advance (and do so in case of holidays and infrequent
nights out) but mostly drawings are executed in the hours before
midnight. I do make plans for a number of days in advance, to combat
writers block in facing a deadline.

The word "drawing" is expanded a bit to include graphics files, flash
movies, and webpages enhanced by javascript and/or php. Sometimes, a
digitized "real" drawing is uploaded, but these days, these are few
and far between.

As you may have noticed, the drawings are first and foremost plans
for works (of art) and plans for a place to show these works (the
nznl.com exhibition hall). Most are plans for works about the heyday
of modernist art between 1950 and 1970 (american abstract
expressionism) or related movements in pre-war (surrealism, dadism)
and post-war Europe (Joseph Beuys).

Does this answer your question?

With respect to "plans for a place to show these works (the nznl.com exhibition hall)" some of the most recent "drawings" look to me a little like 3D renderings for movies or VRML.

DMOMA started as a 3d "movie" on a CD before it went into cyberspace. Are you planning a 3D, cyberspace presence for nznl?

Sorry to take so long getting back to you – and the simple answer
is …. no, I am not. I 've done bits and pieces in 3D though. I find
it takes me too long to make any progress. Technically, 3D is too
complicated for my daily goals, and I find I have no need for the
multiple views of the same object. Generally I'm quite happy with the
one view I wish to present my idea in, and then it's much faster just
to do a drawing.

nznl.com isn't really about presenting a grand plan, at least not yet.

But, a 3D rendering, the way it looks, now that does interest me. I
do model drawings after the way a rendering looks. Just lately I use
The Sims designs as a starting point.
