Rhizome Commissions Proposals

Greetings –

While going through the sites that have been submitted for 2005-2006
Rhizome Commissions, I have come across at least a dozen URLS that do
not constitute proposals as explained in the CFP (
http://rhizome.org/commissions/ ). I am afraid that several people have
just submitted existing art projects without explanation of why they
are applying for a Rhizome commission or how they would put to use
awarded monies.

If you are participating in the Initial Stage of Voting, please do not
bother approving of these projects. While they might be great works of
art, they are not eligible for Rhizome Commissions. It is not within
the purview of our program to support existing artworks unless the
artist has explained how funding would further or complete his/her
project. The jury will not consider any projects that do not follow the
directions outlined in the Call For Proposals –
http://rhizome.org/commissions/

Apologies for any confusion.

Thanks, Rachel

One other point – some proposals do not have detailed budgets, or any budgets at all. This does *not* disqualify them as candidates for Rhizome Commissions.

However, a fully-formed, developed artwork that has been submitted without any explanation of why the artist is applying for a commission does not consitute an acceptable proposal.

To illustrate, and this is purely hypothetical, Yael Kanarek could submit http://www.worldofawe.com/index.html as a proposal site if somewhere she explained why she was applying for a commission and what she intended to do with the granted monies. If she just submitted the existing artwork and we were all left guessing about how she would use a commission, then her proposal would not be eligible. Please email me with any questions and sorry for the confusion.

Thanks, Rachel
