HERE Arts Center seeks designer for artsy pro bono design project

I'm work as a web consultant at HERE Arts Center and wanted to introduce you to our work. We're an interesting space in NYC, which The New York Times has called “one of the most unusual arts spaces in New York and possibly the model for the cutting-edge arts spaces of tomorrow.” HERE has become successful at creating a new kind of arts enterprise—the collaborative multiarts center focusing on hybrid art. In 12 years, we've supported over 11,100 artists and attracted over 850,000 arts patrons. We aim to integrate art into daily life and engage our community's needs and interests on as many different levels as possible in order to ensure our regular presence in their lives. (for more info go to http://here.org/about.html)

We want our website to reflect the spirit of collaboration and artist-centered work. The major design concept I'm working with was inspired by a site called csszengarden.com, where information can be presented in entirely different skins dependent on the manipulation of style sheets. I'm also interested in the use of social software to blur the boundaries between artist and audience with attention paid to increasing the transparency of the artistic process.

HERE is already striving to expose all parts of the act of art making to its audiences through a works-in-progress program that incents audiences to return to several iterations of a performance piece before getting to see the final production. In fact, if you attend all the events prior to opening night (at $8 or less), you get to see the final version for free. An organization like this, is ripe for internet innovation that allows for deeper dialogue between artist and audience.

Please let me know if this project is something you might be interested in working on. The site will be a spectacular portfolio piece and a vehicle for much attention in the theatre field. Feel free to put them in direct contact with me through [email protected] or my HERE phone number 212-366-6900 x291.
