"The Artist as Mediator"

In the fall of 2001, Randall Packer founded the US Department of Art
& Technology (US DAT), a site-specific, virtual government agency
based in Washington, DC. US DAT was created as a critique of the role
of the artist in society in these politically unstable times. In this
talk, presented in the final days before the election, he will
discuss US DAT's mission to activate artists, how they might insert
themselves into the political dialogue. The lecture will focus on the
notion of "artistic mediation," how the artist confronts issues in an
effort to initiate change in the social and political sphere. The
discussion will also feature a presentation of his recent show, the
Experimental Party DisInformation Center, presented by US DAT at the
LUXE gallery in New York City as a "convention intervention" at the
Republican National Convention. For further information, visit the US
DAT Website at: http://www.usdat.us
