OSHA projects: open call for proposals-ART

OSHA

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
OSHA, an independent curatorial project, is currently organizing a show considering the relation of autonomy with networked being. The aim of OSHA is to collaborate with artists and theorists on particular projects, forming a temporary organization of participants, to nurture the strength and drives of art + process and to retain its potential within the inherent flux and vulnerability of experimentation. Working as a free-formed gathering, OSHA exists without the responsibility to a prescriptive structure of an established space and is thus able to conceive of the appropriate foundation, curatorial responsibility and physical identity for each project. This is an open call that is not exclusive to artists or artistic work per se, but to work that engages with the pre-formative concepts. We are expecting the project to originate in New York, from where it will then travel, accompanied by a series of lectures and salon style discussions, as well as relevant video screenings and performances. Please read below as to the general theoretical foundation.

OS1: WOLF
OSHA seeks work that engages the following theoretical concerns. Work can be proposed in any field or medium, including but not limited to the visual and performing arts, music, theory and science.

Playing off of MAC OSX: Panther, OSHA seeks to explore potential and dominant operating systems of contemporary being. Work is sought that engages the biological pulses of affectation and the human impulse to metamorphose within the digital processes of information. The notion of collective autonomy confronts the fixed identity of the individual, as a networked being generating and producing oneself within the virtual and social sphere of interaction. This bio-media positioning confronts an ethical situation as the human takes care of him/herself by necessarily exceeding ones own capacity and thus engaging in temporality and the experience of oneself as of the world. This is an explosion of the self away from a fixed identity to a singularity immersed within the informational media processes, counter beats and excess rhythms that pulse within the environment. In projecting oneself we are calling ourselves into being, greeting the social character of humanity, and consistently remixing and composing, through attraction and repulsion, a being that produces and defines oneself within a dynamic feedback loop with information. Intervention, disruption, care and openness are available and processed within the biological meshing of media and its fields of flow. OSHA seeks work that engages with this bio-media construction and investigates its indetermination.

Working not as a fixed institution but as a temporal migratory entity, OSHA will be able to contour and conform this show to the specificities demanded within the work. We will present an opportunity for the participating artists to lecture, show slides of former work and/or participate in public forums. We will work will artists to realize difficult projects that may not be realized otherwise, and encourage collaboration amongst the participants where appropriate. We are looking for individuals and groups who are interested in forming a dialogue with the other artists involved and taking active participation in the show.

Deadline for proposals: February 15, 2006
