Faculty Positions: CGI Design, Information Graphics, Digital Imaging

The College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University is building an exciting new interdisciplinary program in communication arts that involves multiple departments within the college and across the university. We are hiring three tenure-track assistant professors with cutting-edge creative ability in the following areas:

Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media
Computer-generated imagery—3D graphics design, digital compositing, and special effects to complement existing emphases in game design, interaction design, and digital video. Industry experience or collaboration on team projects is a plus.

School of Journalism
Information graphics—2D/3D information graphic design, illustration and map-making to complement existing emphases in publication and online design. Expertise in digital still and video is a plus.

Department of Advertising, Public Relations, and Retailing
Digital imaging—Digital imaging (still and video) in an advertising context. Experience as an art director or creative director a plus. Position complements the existing programs in still and moving images in the other departments in the college.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop a substantial body of creative/design work, emphasizing projects with significant external audiences and/or external funding. Teaching duties include courses in the candidate’s specialty as well as curriculum development and teaching in the college’s new design program. Salary and teaching loads are competitive. Joint appointments are possible. Strong ties to media organizations and demonstrated interest in international issues are considered a plus. A terminal degree and industry experience preferred.
