Overview: The Hartford Art School, University of Hartford invites applications for a one-year full-time non-tenure track faculty appointment as Artist-in-Residence in the Media Arts Department, with emphasis in hardware/software interface engineering as it applies to fine arts. The application deadline is March 15, 2008, or until the position is filled. The position will begin August 2008. There may be an opportunity for a one-year renewal. The candidate selected will be expected to be a significant partner in a small department with potential collaborations with faculty in electronic music, computer science and computer engineering. The Artist-in-Residence will teach two Media Arts courses each semester, have access to our media labs to create and develop his/her own work and be expected to give one public presentation or workshop about his/her own work. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
MFA in studio art or equivalent experience in hardware/software interface engineering as it applies to fine arts installation, web, performance, or hybrid forms is required. Creative energy, experience in electronic arts media, and commitment to teaching are also essential. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of contemporary art and theory, as well as media history and visual culture. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of software, as well as programming skills - dual platform and open source, familiarity with user-based software applications, including MAX/MSP, Isadora, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Flash, Web design/html, (Dreamweaver, Go Live, etc.), Logic Pro and/or ProTools or equivalent. This position is designed for an artist who has an exhibiting or video/electronic arts production record and a minimum of college two years teaching experience.

The Hartford Art School Community:
