AFTERNEEN A post contemporary art movement by MILTOS MANETAS

AFTERNEEN
We are looking towards new horizons :images and situations which defeat the
categories of contemporary art, architecture, and design.

We believe that web domains, are the new art objects, that the screen is a
place to build homes and offices and we want to meet people who dress in a
brand new Avatar fashion. We want to listen music that is a loop and which
changes as we move around in the room as it usually happens in a videogame .

We want this music to open a new window in our perception , and make a glass
of water appear on the table. We want something similar to a miracle : tech
that you don't need to know how to use and that in theory anybody could
manage but for some reason nobody does in the way we do .

Personal tech that is a product of coincidence and synchronicity.

In the past, poets would envision the encounter of an umbrella with a
sewing machine on a dissecting table : that is too banal today. We wish for
a new type of poets , good enough to create screen metaphors and we wish for
a new type of artists, capable to depict them.

AFTER NEEN , a POST CONTEMPORARY ART SHOW

short description:

The AFTER NEEN show will start in Ultrecht, Holland in Nov 16 , 2002

A number of Neensters has been invited to produce new works in the form of a
website. The "artworks" of the AFTERNEEN show will be these 10 websites.
They will be visible exclusively online, because that's where you want to
see websites. We don't want to put "art" in parade on this show. However, we want to
suggest art and if possible make it visible. To realize this contradiction ,
some of us will be present in the show as humans and some will be there as
avatars. The same thing will happen with our artworks.

We started a new space in Active Worlds, called NEEN. There, computer
avatars discuss the future. They walk around as the philosophers were doing
in the old times and they talk. This world will be projected in the exhibition space of CASCO. Some Neensters will be there physically and some on-line, using their avatar bodies The World is private, you can enter by invitation only. Some Neensters will hang around , wearing clothes similar to their avatarbodies . The public can watch what is happening and maybe, if the Neensters want to interact with the public participate.
check (http://www.electronicorphanage.com/neen/neenworld/ ) to get the idea.

There will be some very strange music made for the occasion by Gnac (Mark
Tranmer), Trinasim, Boy in Static , Nobukazu Takemura and Aki Tsuyuko.

This show, will be the very first entrance of NEEN in Europe, a very
significant event , because it happens that Neen is the first art movement
of the 21st Century.
