The Homeless Museum (HoMu) launches online

Hi all,

The Homeless Museum (HoMu) is a project by Filip Noterdaeme. I helped him d=
esign and build the web component of it. He is an interesting artist who wo=
rked for various museums in his working career. Many artists find their ins=
pirations in the work they do for a living. In his case, it was the busines=
s of running a museum.

The physical component of the HoMu moves around from one place to another, =
relying on the generocity of anyone who could spare him a space. The projec=
t is "homeless" in many ways, often one aspect contradicting another. It is=
n't so much about homeless people as it is about the notion of homelessness=
. For an artist, not having a gallery to represent him/her can create a sen=
se of homelessness. In our culture, both artists and their artwork find the=
ir homes in galleries and museums, which seems rather absurd if you conside=
r the fact that the institutions are inherently alien to the artists. Art s=
hould feel at home in the hearts and the souls of the artists themselves. F=
ilip Noterdaeme critiques and parodies the effect the institutions of art h=
ave on the artists in making them feel homeless.
