Untitled Projects presents: TUPPERWARE@theTANG

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TUPPERWARE @ theTANG,
a new Untitled Project by Conrad Bakker

TUPPERWARE @ theTANG a new Untitled Project by Conrad Bakker, is a consumer friendly installation held in conjunction with the exhibition LIVING WITH DUCHAMP. The carved and painted Tupperware installation and Duchamp exhibition are at the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, NY), beginning June 27 through September 28, 2003.

While the museum setting for the Untitled Projects exhibition might seem traditional, the sale of the art objects is not. To purchase the art objects, would-be consumers must bid for them on Ebay, the online auction site. Each week, for 12 consecutive weeks, a carved and painted set of vintage Tupperware measuring cups will be posted on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com The pricing will start at competitive vintage Tupperware prices.
**first item# is 3230762269

The sculptures themselves are carved out of wood and painted to match vintage Tupperware measuring cup sets. They are also intentionally displayed in arrangements that mimic the decorative and structuralist display habits of actual Ebay Tupperware sellers (and perhaps not so coincidentally, certain modular tendencies of Minimalism).

To participate in this Untitled Project, first go to Ebay and locate these items using the Ebay search engine and these descriptors: TUPPERWARE, MEASURING CUPS, VINTAGE. Once you've located the carved and painted measuring cups, follow the Ebay instructions to place a bid (to do this you will be required to register with Ebay). Each set will be available on Ebay for one full week and will be sold to the highest bidder. After the details of the sale are negotiated, the Tang Museum will pack and ship the sculptures to the winning bidder.

As the pieces are sold, the Tang Museum will ship the artwork and display a printout of the Ebay transaction. Consequently, over the course of the exhibition, the carved and painted sets of Tupperware will disappear as they shift from the context of the Tang Museum back into the world, using internet consumer culture as an interface.
