Assistant Professor - Design for New Media

The University of Lethbridge, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of New Media invites applications for a three year term position (with the possibility of conversion to tenure track) as Assistant Professor of New Media (Design), with emphasis on Web and Graphic Design, effective July 1, 2006, and subject to Board of Governor's approval.

A MFA or equivalent terminal degree is required along with a demonstrated record of creative activity and/or scholarly research as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching. Professional experience in the area of Web Design / Graphic Design and/or a background in design history and theory would be an asset. Other desirable qualifications might include one or more of the following: production management and portfolio development; gender-based communications theory or gender studies; cultural studies pertaining to new media technology.

The successful candidate will teach core and elective courses in Graphic Design and Net Art for New Media, along with other courses relating to professional or creative practice. There is also the opportunity to develop courses according to program needs and in which the candidate has experience and a demonstrated record of success. The successful candidate must also have the desire and ability to participate in the development and operation of the Department of New Media and the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The Department of New Media exists within the Faculty of Fine Arts, and is housed in the Centre for the Arts. We offer a B.F.A. degree in New Media within a liberal education context and the department is among the fastest growing units in the University. A M.F.A.
