Assistant Professor in Contemporary Art HIstory/Critical Theory

The Department of Art and Art History at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan seeks a fulltime, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art History with a specialization in Contemporary Art/ Critical Theory. Primary teaching duties include undergraduate courses in contemporary art history (with post-1970 emphasis) and critical theory. Candidates with an additional area of expertise in African, Oceanic, or Art of the Americas, will be looked upon favorably. Responsibilities will also include teaching an introductory survey course, a course in critical thinking and writing required of all art history majors, undergraduate seminars, and the senior capstone on a rotating basis. Departmental and university service is expected. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Art History; teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.

The Department of Art and Art History offers undergraduate majors in art history and studio art, and includes the Oakland University Art Gallery, which presents changing exhibitions featuring both regional and international contemporary artists, historical art, and student thesis exhibitions. The department values sensitivity to global studies and interdisciplinary approaches in the humanities.
