The Beard Art Galleries, located within the Division of Art at Indiana Wesleyan University are pleased to present the latest large scale art installation made by new design professor and visual artist, Herb Vincent Peterson (American, 1979). Not Until I Get There brings together two gallery spaces into one giant art experience using key artworks and styles from Petersons past and present bodies of work – including various media from photographic images, optical illusion and sculptural elements such as 4000 lbs of dried corn. Moving back home to Indiana became the catalyst to produce the newest body of work and to explore what Peterson deems familiar and unfamiliar, the utopia and dystopia of our heartland landscape.

Since 2005 Peterson has conducted a rigorous art practice that prompts viewers into a landscape of ironic metaphors and visual cues that express rooted emotions about home and place. Issues of locality and acceptance about life and God are represented through large word and sign graphics.

Born in Indiana, Peterson is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, creative-director-designer, and assistant professor & coordinator of graphic design at Indiana Wesleyan University. His work has been featured in numerous national and international magazines, books and exhibitions including venues such as, The Wexner Center for the Arts, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Elizabeth Gallery in London, Art-Basel; Miami, Sean Christopher Gallery, Agora New York, Conner Art, Blue Star Contemporary, Kuhn Fine Arts Center and more recently at Jacksson Contemporary Art. He holds a BFA from Herron School of Art and Design where he studied Photography and Visual Communication Design and an MFA emphasizing in interdisciplinary research, focusing on Visual Design and Art Education from The Ohio State University.
