The under-representation of women in the arts has been a continuous and complicated problem; throughout the 2000s, only 28% of the Whitney Museum's solo exhibitions featured female artists, and only 32% of the artists exhibited at the 2014 Whitney Biennial were women. At this panel, we will explore how and why this issue persists, discussing the dominating male presence at international biennials, major institutions, and seasonal gallery shows. We will bring special attention to how this also affects other minorities in the arts. Guests will have the chance to directly communicate with the panelists, sharing their opinions and personal experiences.

Panelists:
Sam Vernon (former curator/gallery manager at BRIC Rotunda Gallery, MFA Yale)
Susan Mumford (BSAA + AWAD, London)
Larry Ossei-Mensah, MBA (The Rules: How to Play the Art Game without Sacrificing Artistic Integrity)
Katie Cercone (Push Pop Collective)
Florence Lynch, (LYNCH THAM Gallery)
moderated by Chloë Bass (artist and co-founder of Arts in Bushwick)

45 min discussion, 20 min Q&A, 20 min mingling session.
