Get an immersive introduction to letterpress typesetting and Vandercook cylinder press operation, while exploring Kala’s collection of antique type. You will start with an introduction to the history of letterpress, typesetting, and related terminology, and finish the first day hand-setting type, learning how to operate a Vandercook printing press, and printing a collaborative book or broadside print. Students will build on what they’ve learned on the second day, setting type for their own individual prints, and learning how to proof and correct type on the press to achieve crisp, clear impressions.
