When I was six years old, I started having health problems. I would get so
feverish that I would go into convulsions and have to be placed into the
hospital. My hearing started to disappear, and I had constant throat and head
aches. The doctors decided to take out the tonsils from my throat and adnoids
from my nose. They also put tubes in my ears. For some reason, anethestic did
not work too well on me and I woke up during the operation, they had to stop
and put me back to sleep. When I was in the recovery room, the nurses left me
unattended, except for my mother, thinking I would sleep for a long time. My
mother, always hungry, snuck out to get some candy at the machine. Of course,
I woke up and immediately sat up in bed, pulling at something in my nose. And
I remember a stream of blood pouring from my nose onto the bedsheets in front
of me. I totally freaked out, and tried to climb out of bed to run towards the
hallway. I think my mother came back before I got halfway out of the bed. I
don't really remember, it is all sort of dark. Except for the blood. I
sometimes still dream about blood pouring from my nose.
