CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
PoV: Alternative Games Exhibition

June 17-20, 2005
Port of Vancouver, Renaissance Hotel Waterfront
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The PoV (Point of View) Alternative Games Exhibition will focus on groundbreaking digital games and game-based projects that innovate through content, process, use of technology, interaction, expectations and audience; in short, games that refuse to rehash standard themes and paradigms. The juried exhibition will run from June 17th to 20th at Vancouver’s Renaissance Hotel Waterfront. A particular effort will be made to encourage local and international submissions from underrepresented researchers, artists and community groups.

PoV will run in conjunction with the Digital Games Research Association's 2005 international conference "Changing Views: Worlds in Play." It will include:
• An interactive, juried exhibit of digital games, alternative machines, devices and peripherals, and/or game inspired art works;
• An online archive and catalog of exhibited works;
• An innovative exhibition environment tailored for play and discussion.

Exhibition Theme

The theme for this event reflects “Changing Views” focus on the emergence of digital games as a “serious” and significant medium with the potential to influence, delight, educate, and challenge.  PoV (Point of View) will invite participants to present works that create alternative perspectives or viewpoints, or take an innovative or experimental approach to the game experience. Of particular interest are works that explore subjectivities in game environments: games that challenge ideas surrounding players, creators, and contexts; reveal new means of representation and interaction; present personal expressions of hardware; or otherwise play with notions of content, context, and form.

If you have a work that meets our criteria and should be considered for the PoV Alternative Games Exhibition, the Call for Submissions can be found at http://www.gamesconference.org/digra2005/event_PoV.php. The submission deadline is February 15th, 2005 (midnight, PST).
