Internet masking effect

Christopher, that article was brilliant. However, I was addressing that letter to the people on this list who just use this to fire off snappy remarks and be general intelligentsia-bastards. That's not real. This is their uber-alterego, their online personality. Like Scott McCloud (_Understanding Comics_) described in his theory of the "masking effect," the online forum is the ultimate masking effect, and thus it is easy to get lost in the possibilities of this split personality. Those like you who are able to communicate and maintain integrity to their personality should be commended, but it is difficult to attain such facility with a computer for most. Loads of text is obviously an indirect method of communication, but, done well, articulate/melifluous prose actually explains more by what is lacking more often than by what it contains. To clarify, internet communication has the possibility of being an elegant medium (by its simplicity, the directness of its thought flow),!
yet many here are using its…starkness?…as a bold accent on their impetuous sarcasm and general nihilism-for-kicks pretention.
That C.S. Lewis quote ("How can the gods meet us face to face till we have faces?" ) is lip-smackingly good, too.
