HUNTER COLLEGEaS MFA PROGRAM in INTEGRATED MEDIA ARTS

Call for Applicants:

Hunter’s MFA in Integrated Media Arts offers a 48 credit course of study, combining analytical seminars, interdisciplinary rearch, and creative workshops in writing, visual communication, and media distribution and exhibition. The program is highly selective, enrolling only 15-20 students each year. The goal of the program is to educate socially aware artists, documentary story tellers and twenty-first century pamphleteers, people who will assume creative leadership positions as independent producers or in the media industry, specialists in informed, nonfiction media making, who are conversant with the new digital media environment.

Building on a foundation of research and analysis, students produce knowledge-based projects using a wide range of creative tools including animation, digital imaging, non-linear editing techniques, online journalism, virtual environments, interactive web design and programming, information visualization and computer games.

CLOSING DATE FOR COMPLETED APPLICATIONS IS FEBRUARY 1ST, 2005 FOR FALL 2005 ENROLLMENT.

Applicants are expected to present the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

• A well organized portfolio of media works indicating talent and promise. Works submitted may include journalistic writings, videos and films, interactive digital design, layout and graphic design work, etc.

• A 500 word personal statement, describing the applicant’s long-term objectives as a media maker and the social impact you hope your work will have. Also explain why Hunter’s MFA Program in Integrated Media Arts especially interests you.

• Three letters of recommendation from people able to comment on an applicant’s creative and intellectual talents and determination.

• An official transcript of undergraduate studies.

• A completed graduate application form.
