Assistant Professor in Time-Based Media, tenure-track position starting August 1, 2016

The School of Art at the University of Tennessee seeks an artist for whom the time-based arts are central to their creative practice. Our ideal applicant has significant creative experience in video and one or more of the related fields of time arts, including but not limited to: animation, film/cinema, performance, physical computing, sound and/or transmedia storytelling. Applicants should be conversant in current issues of theory and aesthetics.
Required qualifications: MFA or other terminal degree; two years of post-graduate, college-level teaching experience; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and an established record of exhibitions, festivals, screenings, performances, publications and/or related creative research with clear potential for achievement on a national and/or international level.
Desired qualifications: Evidence of an ability to contribute in meaningful ways to an open and inclusive community and to support the diversity and intercultural goals of the School and the University.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 load in time-based media in the 4D arts concentration at the undergraduate level and the Transmedia Design concentration at the graduate level. Crossovers with other programs outside the School of Art, such as Cinema Studies, Theatre, Music and Computer Science are encouraged. Other responsibilities include active participation in departmental organization, student advising, service on graduate thesis committees and on committees that support the educational mission and initiatives of the School and University. Members of the studio faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to professional growth through research and creative activity.

Selected applicants whose submission is completed before January 4, 2016 will be eligible for an interview during the CAA conference. Conference attendance is encouraged, but not required. In lieu of an interview at CAA, a Skype interview is an option. Selected interviewees will be notified by January 15th.
