FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION IN ARCHITECTURE
The Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Architecture, starting Fall 2016. Rank and salary are competitive with peer institutions and are commensurate with quality and output of production, scholarship, extent of teaching experience, and current professional standing.

Faculty in Architecture at SAIC bring themes of architectural practice, representation and theory into studio teaching. The program is particularly interested in candidates with practice and research experience with any of the following: existing buildings and interior space, advanced building performance, or urbanism and social practice. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expands architectural practice and/or the intellectual conversation of the field.

PROGRAM PROFILE
The Architecture program focuses on incubating new practices and new practice economies that expand the range and purview of the architect, teaching students to be critical, innovative, and activist in their practice. The program takes great advantage of its unique situation in the center of American architectural practice in the Chicago Loop and the 150-year experimental legacy of fine arts education at the School of the Art Institute.

The School offers a professional, NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture (MArch) degree with avenues for specialization in Interior Architecture and Historic Preservation. The AIADO department also offers courses within the interdisciplinary BFA and MFA programs in Architecture and Interior Architecture. Teaching in architecture includes collaborations with the Departments of Sculpture, Ceramics, Fashion Design, and others. Recent or ongoing projects include external partnerships with the Chicago Architecture Biennale, Argonne National Laboratory, Rebuild Foundation, and Kickstarter.

Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is taught in close collaboration with Fine Arts, Art History, and other disciplines and through substantive engagement with external partners in the professional and cultural community. RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the department; conducting research and/or practice in the area of design; and contributing to the program and the School through administrative duties and service.

QUALIFICATIONS
A terminal degree in design or a related field is preferred. A Master of Architecture (MArch) is expected, licensure preferred. Experience in teaching and a track record of excellence in practice related to architectural research is expected. A demonstrated national or international profile is preferred.
