ROOTX Festival - 26 October - 3 November 2002

ROOTX (Running Out of Time) is a ten-day Festival, bringing a diverse
selection of national and international artists whose practice occupies
the outer reaches of time-based media. The 10th Festival will be an
intensive period of participation, networking, presentations and
exhibitions, creating and debating new innovative and radical works
including film, video, performance, installation, sound and music,
digital technology and new media.

ROOTX artists include nationally and internationally acclaimed Desperate
Optimists (UK) , Eva Ursprung and Heimo Ranzenbacher (Austria), The
McCoys (USA), Mike Stubbs (UK) exhibiting in Where do we go from here?
the Ferens Art Gallery Hull. This exhibition of new media and
installation takes film, video and performance as the starting point to
build an analysis of the social implications of movement, time and space.

The programme continues with Phill Niblock (USA) who is an intermedia
artist using music, film, photography, video and computers; composer
Takumi Endo (Japan), mineminemine (CAN) is a collective that makes
performance art featuring Magali Babin, Ric Ltourneau and Alexandre
St-Onge; Brandon LeBelle (USA) sound, performance and installation
artist, Blast Theory (UK), performance artist Irma Optimum (FIN), sound,
video and graphic works entitled  The Scalene project performed by
Battery Operated (CAN), Mitchell Akiyama (CAN), Identification (CAN),
Private Benjamin (AUS), Emma McRae (CAN) and Beewoo (CAN).

Artists selected to perform under the live art banner are Lee
Paterson (UK), The Reverend Lord James Gordonovic (UK), Sabine Popp
(Norway), Helmut Lemke (GER) and Jeroen Jongleen (Holland). For ROOTX
