Triple Canopy, a nonprofit online magazine of art and literature with an office and a venue located in Brooklyn, seeks an experienced front-end developer with proven interest in publishing technologies. This person will play a significant role in shaping new projects by artists and writers, working from prototyping to publication, both on the Web and on other digital platforms.

The front-end developer will:
- collaborate with Triple Canopy’s developers and designers, who are based in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Berlin;
- participate in front-end development for future iterations of Triple Canopy’s online publishing platform;
- work on technical implementation and production support for projects created with Alongslide, Triple Canopy’s custom authoring and presentation tool;
- help maintain the editors’ manual for Triple Canopy’s CMS and Alongslide.

The ideal candidate is:
- based in Berlin and possesses a minimum of three years of experience working in a collaborative studio, publishing, or arts environment; - an experienced front-end Web developer fluent in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (Triple Canopy is built on Ruby on Rails, jQuery, and HTML5/CSS3);
- knowledgeable about interaction design technologies, from Web 2.0 to mobile apps;
- knowledgeable about contemporary technologies and standards for online and digital publishing;
- knowledgeable about developing open-sourced applications;
- personable, resourceful, and enthusiastic about creative experimentation and engaging in dialogues with Triple Canopy’s editors and collaborators alike;
- engaged with contemporary culture (visual art, literature, new media);
- able to articulate emerging technologies and their use to editors and collaborators without a background in technology;
- capable of working with iOS/Android and of doing back-end coding and audiovisual editing, although such experience is not required.

Triple Canopy requires an initial commitment of thirty-five hours per month, though the workload is likely to increase during occasional major development initiatives. We imagine this position to be suited for freelancers in search of a broader network of regular collaborators and for developers who desire critical engagement outside of a typical design and development studio. Interested candidates should submit a résumé, portfolio, GitHub profile, as well as any other relevant work samples to [email protected]. Payment is commensurate with experience. No calls, please.
