June 4, 2010
L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA
7:30 p.m. The Residents
The Residents are a group of performance artists and musicians occupying the fringes of modern culture since 1972. Faceless, anonymous, and totally devoid of individuality, the members of the group have long insisted they be judged on their work and not their personalities. The Residents present a sneak preview of a work in progress.

Preceded at 6 p.m. by one of our favorite DJs spinning in the lobby, where wine and beer will be available for purchase.
BAM Galleries Open Until 9 p.m.
On L@TE Fridays, general admission to the BAM galleries is just $5 after 5 p.m. Show your ticket for a same-day PFA screening or gallery visit and get in free. Admission is always free for BAM/PFA members and UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff.

Music Performance
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Gamelan Gender Wayang: Balinese Chamber Music
Berkeley Art Museum Sculpture Garden
Free admission

A performance by Gamelan Gender Wayang will be a featured event of this year’s popular Berkeley World Music Festival. One of the smallest types of gamelan (bronze and bamboo ensembles of Java and Bali), gender wayang has been likened to a string quartet in its compact complexity. The ensemble accompanies the dalang (shadow puppet master), who brings to life stories taken from ancient Hindu and Balinese epics.
The San Francisco-based Gamelan Gender Wayang ensemble includes Lisa Gold, Reiko Hasegaza, and Sarah Willner, featuring Paul Miller.

L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA
7:30 p.m. Summer Sounds: Sic Alps; Bill Orcutt; The Baths

A special homage to the East Bay’s garage band scene, the program will feature a lineup of old-school rock ’n’ roll bands nurtured in our backyard. SF-based Sic Alps have honed their noisy neo-psych pop, Bill Orcutt's new album A New Way to Pay Old Debts is being praised as one of the year’s best, and The Baths will give a sneak preview of their forthcoming self-titled album.

Preceded at 6 p.m. by one of our favorite DJs spinning in the lobby, where wine and beer will be available for purchase.
BAM Galleries Open Until 9 p.m.

L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA
7:30 p.m. Skank Bloc Bologna Number Four: Wrap-Up Party
The final night of the Skank Bloc Bologna Number Four series for L@TE features Oxbow. Oxbow was recently blessed by Vice Magazine as “the best art rock band in the world.” Appearing in spare and stripped down form, all acoustically, Oxbow will be performing selections from their six-album songbook.
In the Jamaican tradition of “toasting,” Colvin and guests will recite material from the Marxist political philosopher Antonio Gramsci over previously screened film and video sources and footage from previous SBB4 L@TE events.

DOORS: 6 PM with cash bar and DJ Chuck Mobley, a.k.a. DJ Skank

L@TE ADMISSION:

L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA
7:30 p.m. Expanded Cinema: El sexo fuerte (The Stronger Sex)
Celebrating the hundredth anniversary of Mexico’s Revolución, we bring you El sexo fuerte (The Stronger Sex), a rousing film about two unsuspecting men shipwrecked upon the shores of Eden, an Art Deco kingdom ruled by beautiful amazons. See raygun-wielding amazons succumb to the scent of man! We’ll supply a cart of churros and piñatas swollen with sweets—indulge in la vida dulce.

Get a free ride to L@TE on the Mexican Bus, picking up at downtown Berkeley BART at 6:30 and 7 p.m., and returning from BAM/PFA to BART around 9:15 after the close of the program.

Preceded at 6 p.m. by local disco-tráfico DJ Juan Luna-Avin, spinning the latest in electronica híbrida from Mexico. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
