L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA (Invaders from Mars)

Invaders from Mars
May 28, 7:30 p.m.

A family night at BAM/PFA celebrates science fiction film through the ages. The main event is a classic sci-fi film for ages ten and up—Invaders from Mars (1953), told by William Cameron Menzies from a young boy’s point of view. Featuring flying saucers, eerie sounds, quicksand that sucks victims into an underground lair, raygun battles, and Martians in bold green jumpsuits with pronounced zippers! For the young boy who has the misfortune of discovering all of this in a field outside his window, the real nightmare begins when both his parents and the police refuse to take him seriously. You parents won’t look the same when it’s over! Preceded at 6 p.m. by a family-friendly DJ; a screening for all ages of short films including Georges Méliès’s beloved A Trip to the Moon, based on a Jules Verne story; and a reading from Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a story that features Méliès. Admission to the BAM galleries is always free for kids age twelve and under.

Preceded at 6 p.m. by one of our favorite DJs spinning in the lobby, where wine and beer will be available for purchase.

General admission to the BAM galleries is just $5 after 5 p.m. Show your ticket for a same-day PFA screening or gallery visit and get in free. Admission is always free for BAM/PFA members and UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff.
